About the Instructor - Louisa Alix |
| In 1992 Louisa Alix started social partner dancing learning anywhere and with anyone she could find on the social dance floor. She was introduced to and fell in love with West Coast Swing in 1999 and was eventually dancing 5-7 days a week and regularly travelling 2-5 hours for a night out dancing amongst Southern California’s finest West Coast Swing dancers.
Louisa started competing in 2001 at various American national events in the "Jack and Jill" category placing first, second, third or finalist in her division with only social dancing as her collective formal training! Soon after she started competing she was asked to assist with classes in her local town. Louisa left the USA and moved to New Zealand in 2002 and after many requests from her NZ dancing friends, she started teaching WCS, obtaining regular formal training and working with a demo group in 2003. Louisa continues to teach workshops, privates and series classes and judges dance competitions in Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and in Wellington as well as Australia and is driven to see students excel and WCS communities grow. She occasionally returns to the USA for holidays, training and dance events. At the last event she attended, Swingthing held in Irvine, California, USA, in October 2009, she took home 2nd place in Jack and Jill and 5th place in the Advanced Strictly categories. Trained by many including notable West Coast Swing instructors including Skippy Blair - GSDTA, Tatiana Mollman, Jordan Frisbee, Deborah Szekely, Robert Cordoba, Benji Schwimmer, Kellese Key, Tessa Cunningham and Myles Munroe.
